Saturday, 20 June 1874 An act granting a medal to John Horn, Jr. for his heroic exploits in rescuing men, women, and children from drowning in Detroit River. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the President of the United States be authorized and directed to cause to be prepared and presented to John Horn, junior, of Detroit, Michigan, a gold medal, with appropriate devices and inscriptions, in recognition and in commemoration of his heroic and humane exploits in rescuing men, women, and children from drowning in the Detroit River. 18 Stat. pt.3 573
Thursday, 28 April 1904 An Act To authorize a duplicate medal to be struck off and presented to John Horn, of Detroit, Michigan, for life-saving. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to strike off and present to John Horn, of Detroit, Michigan, a duplicate of the medal voted by Congress to him in the year eighteen hundred and seventy-four, for saving many lives from drowning, in place of the said medal, which was stolen from him in October, nineteen hundred and one. 33 Stat. 1684
